Samsung Bada OS To Be Made Open Source

Samsung is planning to make its Bada operating system (OS) open source next year.As part of a drive to increase the reach of its own brand OS, the firm has let slip its plan to release Bada to developers and device makers. The change will occur sometime next year, according to The Wall Street Journal.

The WSJ reported, "Samsung "is planning to make Bada software an open source platform next year," a person familiar with the situation said, adding the South Korean company has no plans to buy a software company."

The source is unnamed and this is the only information we have. We are waiting to hear back from Samsung with its comment on the issue. So far Bada has only made an appearance on Samsung's Wave line of phones, of which it recently announced three new handsets. The move would see the OS move to rival Google's Android, which is found on a number of different mobile makers' devices.

It will mean that the firm will have less dependence on Android and could result in Samsung eventually ditching Android in favour of its own software, even thought this seems an unlikely and risky move.
